The technology for resurfacing aluminum wheels is described below. Required tools and materials:
- Cleaner and conditioner for aluminum.
- Coating for aluminium.
- Acrylic or urethane coating for aluminium.
General processing sequence
Mark the location of the wheel on the vehicle and the mounting bolt holes.
Remove the wheel from the car.
Mark the position of the balance weights and remove them from the wheel.
Wash the exterior and interior surfaces with an aqueous solution of an all-purpose cleaner. Remove traces of grease and oil with solvent.
Cover the tire with a screen to prevent dripping of the coating.
Select and perform one of the two repair procedures depending on the specific case.
Replace the balance weights with the nylon coated clamps.
Mount the wheel and tire assembly on the vehicle and tighten the fixing bolts to 90 Nm.
Pre-treatment of damaged areas of the color coating
Sandpaper (dry or wet) damaged areas of the colored coating to ensure better adhesion of the wheel surface with a transparent protective coating.
Elimination of damage to the material of the aluminum wheel
Install the wheel assembly with the tire on the hub of the stand or car and turn on the slow rotation speed.
Grind with a sandpaper stretched on a bar of a suitable shape, defects in the material of the wheel. During processing, slowly move the bar with the skin on the treated surface of the wheel. Processing begins with a coarse sandpaper, then continues with a medium grit sandpaper and ends with a fine sandpaper. The following sequence is recommended:
- Clean the surface of contamination.
- Soak the wheel in the coating agent for 1-3 minutes.
- Rinse in water and pat dry.
