Checking anthers and tie rod ends

The tie rod ends at the outer ends of the tie rods consist of steel ball heads which are contained in a plastic bushing with little lubrication and require no maintenance. The hinges are protected from dust and moisture by anthers, the condition of which must be monitored.

Check the anthers for cracks around their entire circumference.

Tie rod ends with cracked anthers are considered defective and must be replaced.

If play is found in the hinges, then it can be installed independently on a raised car by shaking the wheel around its vertical axis or pulling the steering rod.



Another method for detecting play is when the assistant turns the steering wheel back and forth with the car standing on the ground, and you, holding the hinge with your hand, determine the presence of play.

Similarly, it is checked whether there is play in the rubber-metal hinge (bushings) steering rod in connection with the steering mechanism.
