14.1 Check the end play of the crankshaft using a dial gauge

1. Before removing the crankshaft, check the end play using a dial gauge (14.1) or a set of probes.
14.2 The arrow on the main bearing caps points towards the front of the engine (to timing belt)

2. Mark the main bearing caps if they are not marked (14.2) and, loosening the cap bolts a quarter of a turn at a time, unscrew and remove the cap bolts.
3. Remove the main bearing caps.
4. Remove the crankshaft and install the main bearing caps in place, loosely tightening the fixing bolts.
