2. There are three ways to check the water pump without removing it from the vehicle. If the pump is defective, it must be replaced.
3. When the engine warms up to normal temperature, compress the upper radiator hose. If the water pump is working properly, when the upper radiator hose is released, the pressure will begin to drop.
8.4 If coolant is leaking from the filter hole, the water pump must be replaced.
4. The water pump has ventilation holes. To check for leaks from these holes, you will need a flashlight and a mirror, as the holes are located on the bottom of the pump (8.4).
8.5 If the shaft has free play, the water pump must be replaced.
5. If the water pump bearings fail, it starts to run noisily. The wear of the pump shaft is indicated by excessive free play of the pulley (8.5).
